Services
for Students
Reference information provided
by FCA & UEC
Students' Union
The Students' Union is onsite at both campuses to help any student
with any problem they may face. Whatever the circumstances the representatives
will do their best to resolve the issue or at the least, point you
in the right direction of what to do.
The SU runs clubs and societies of all sorts and are always open
to new ideas. In the last year there has been a Circus Skills society
formed and the FCA football team has gone from strength to strength.
In the SU offices you will find information on who your officers
are for this academic year and all are available to be contacted
at any time.
The SU also runs trips abroad during the year to venues including
Amsterdam and Dublin. The annual snowboarding trip at Easter is
also very popular.
Counselling
Don't leave it until the last minute if things are getting a bit
wobbly.
Over the years, counsellors have seen students with virtually every
permutation of what can affect your personal, as well as your academic,
life. After all, students are a section of society with all the
human issues that affect everyone, plus a few academic ones thrown
in for good measure.
Total confidentiality is guaranteed and you can also be assured
that all our counsellors are professionally trained. With the experience
of working within an educational setting, the counsellors are able
to offer the best support, not only for you personally, but also
for your academic progress.
Accommodation
The Accommodation Office exists to assist all current and prospective
students with their accommodation needs during their studies at
the Woodlane and Tremough Campuses. Staff are always pleased to
discuss your needs throughout your time here, from providing lists
of available accommodation to advising on any problems or disputes
that may arise. The staff can help with details of accommodation
available throughout the year, comprehensive advice and guidance
on securing the right accommodation, help and guidance in solving
problems you may have within your current accommodation, and information
on other sources of help available, including free legal advice.
Languages
Various foreign language classes are offered usually including Spanish,
French, German and Italian. Dates and venues for these classes can
be found on the intranet.
Disability Support
For anyone who has a disability of any description, assistance is
available whether it is a learning or physical disability.
Student Ambassadors
The institution is looking for friendly, enthusiastic and reliable
2nd or 3rd year students to represent FCA and give insight into
university life to prospective and new students. You get paid and
it enhances your CV and references. It will improve your presentation
and communication skills and you get a free trip home when going
on school visits to perhaps your old college! You'll potentially
be involved with open days, campus tours, visit days, UCAS events
and other general duties. Previous presentation and public speaking
experience is a plus, but full training will be given. If interested
please email opendays@falmouth.ac.uk or call the Education Liaison
Office on 01326 213761.
Careers
Whatever stage you are at in your studies, the Careers Advisory
Service will help you decide on your future plans, job seeking,
choosing postgraduate courses and alternatives, such as a year out.
The Careers Information Collection is located on the ground floor
of the library at the Woodlane Campus and is available for reference
use during library opening hours. Information is provided on a range
of occupations, employment, self-employment and postgraduate opportunities.
The Careers PC is situated next to the Careers Information Collection.
Packages on the PC include PROSPECTS PLANNER, a computerised guidance
programme to help you at all stages of your career planning, and
FUNDERFINDER, a database which helps identify charities and grant-making
trusts which may be able to help with funding for study, projects
etc..
